Generations of music students all over the world were introduced to contemporary music through his pieces. But not only for the youngest ones did Jenö Takács (1902-2005) create an outstanding oeuvre: Works like Concerto for piano, string orchestra and percussion, op. 60, or the cantata Chant of the Creation, op. 44, rank him as a dignified successor of important archetypes like Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. Austria as well as Hungary can rightly claim him as a fellow countryman. Though he organically absorbs national elements of both his home countries, he is by no means merely a nationalistic composer. Jenö Takács was a "cosmopolitan", a citizen of the world, a witness to the history of nearly the whole 20th century, as well as a real humanist. To keep his music alive and promote it with today's interpreters and audiences is our aim and shall be supported by this website.
